Advertising on Google
Google Ad Words is an advertising platform that allows you to show your company information at the top of the search results when a potential customer is searching for the service you offer. Only about 10-20% of consumers click on the advertisements, but if you're doing business in a city with a good sized population, you only need 10% to make a lot more money and get a great return on investment. I have run ad campaigns for small businesses for the last few years and have learned quite a lot on the subject. I wanted to write this article to help business owners like you start making money quickly and efficiently.
How to get started
The first thing you'll need is a Google Ad Words account. You can sign up for one of these accounts in under 5 minutes and they have a very easy process to follow. Once you get signed up you'll then need to link up a credit or debit card to your account so you can pay for your ads. The process is super simple and you can start getting leads for your business within minutes
How It Works
Google charges you for every click you get on your advertisement. Once your ad is live, you ad will be put in front of potential customers and every time one of them clicks on your ad, you get charged a certain amount. The amount you are charge varies by city and keywords. For instance, a tow truck driver usually makes about $65 on average per customer, so they usually pay around $2 per click on their ad. A plumber usually makes an average of $200 per customer, so their cost per click is usually $6 or more. Google knows that different businesses make different amounts of money per customer so they certainly take this into consideration when charging you for advertising. The great thing is that you can set daily limits for how much money you want to spend throughout the day. You can also control what time of day your advertisement runs so you won't have to worry about people calling your phone because they saw your ad at 11 PM at night so they figure you were open.
Tips on Google Ads
I've kept a lot of records and statistics in regards to my advertisements and have a few guidelines to help you know if your ad is as effective as it should be. For this example I'll tell you the real numbers on running ads for a tow truck company in Mesa, Arizona. I purchased a tracking phone number for the advertisement to see how many calls we received from it. The copy on the advertisement said "Cheap Towing-Mesa, AZ". The description of the ad said "licensed, bonded, insured. Family Owned Company." Our total cost per click was $1.67. We found out that for every 4 people that clicked on the ad, 1 of those people called the number so it basically cost us about $7 per phone call. The tow truck owner I was working with was closing 7 out of 10 customers that called so that means it cost us $70 for him to make $455 (his avg. customer price is $65, so 7 x$65 =$455). These are some of the better returns on advertising that I have ever seen in my life and I've been doing it quite a while. I always recommend that small business owners use Google Ad Words in order to start making money right away for their business.
